The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Group Sustainable Forest Management System (SFM) standard is the leading forest certification standard in Canada and the first national sustainable forest management standard in the world. First released in 1996, it is Canada’s official national standard for sustainable forest management.  More forests are certified to the CSA SFM Standard than any other national standard in the world.

Forests certified to the CSA SFM Standard provide independent 3rd party assurance of meeting a strict set of biological, environmental and social criteria. Recognizing that 95% of Canada’s forests are publicly owned, the CSA certification demands active public involvement by local residents. From coast to coast, approximately 40 public advisory groups are involved in frequent discussion each and every year with forest managers to continuously improve their performance.

This website has been developed and is maintained by the CSA SFM User Group who collectively manage over 50 million hectares of CSA certified forests in Canada (as of September, 2010).  The CSA SFM User Group is not affiliated with the CSA Group.
